15 years of
ROAD HOUSE: The Play!

Picture
The year was 2009, and whenever Shelley McLendon(who plays the role of Dr. Elizabeth Clay) turned on her television, the  movie Road House was on. And whenever it was on, she had to finish watching it. And whenever she finished watching it, she thought, "this would make a great play."

So she called on her talented friend Courtenay Hameister to help her adapt it to the stage, and another talented friend Jonny Newsome to write the music, and Road House: The Play! was born.

Picture
The show debuted as a staged reading at the 2010 Fertile Ground Festival, and it was well received!  The inaugural full  production for   Road House: The Play! was put up with no budget and the smartest comedic actors in town back in 2010 at the now closed Someday Lounge. Every performance sold out, and the reviews were glowing:
Picture
"Entirely too many brains to have a cast like that"
(PDX Comedy Blog)

"McLendon and Hameister have displayed nothing less than the best of snarky genius in their adaptation. The cast  Bad Reputation has assembled makes you wonder why the hell Lorne Michaels still has a job.” (Portland Picks for Men)

“…witty touches, eager performances, and a contagious sense of balls out enthusiasm, it's funny and clever and great. Go. And be nice.”
(Portland Mercury)

Road House: The Play! has become the most requested show with Siren Theater audiences. We have lost count with how many times we have performed this show, but we love it and we hope you do too!
